Stay strong. Stand up. Have a voice.
In response to the Ferguson shooting of Mike Brown, a song entitled “I Am Mike Brown,” by G.A.G.E. the rapper was released.
The song begins and ends with a early news statement from Mike Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, and includes a snippet of Dorian Joshnson’s, Mike’s friend, statement describing what he witnessed.
“It’s not a black or white thing, its abusing the law,” he says in the song.
I was over joyed after listening to this song. G.A.G.E. never took a side instead he stated facts. He gave this social issue a lyrical voice.
“We gotta stop all the rioting in the streets. We ain’t doing nothing, but proving that we animals to police,” G.A.G.E. says. In the beginning of the song this line immediately set the tone. To teach!
What many thought was going to be a peaceful protest turned ugly quick when incidents of rioting and looting occurred. In all honesty, rioting is not always the answer. Why? Because as a result your voice is never heard. As a society, it’s time to think smarter while going above and beyond to for what’s right.
This Ferguson case has drawn a lot of attention from many all over the world, and this song is just one of many voices speaking.
