Straight Outta Compton‘s reign is not over! According to Deadline, SOC was initially set to make $40-$50 million for its opening weekend. The movie instead became the fifth highest opening August film with $60.2 million in ticket sales for the opening weekend.

Don’t think that’s impressive? Well SOC beat out M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs ($60.1M), Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes ($54.8M) and G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra ($54.7M) as far as opening weekends are concerned.

According to Deadline, SOC also beat summer openings for major films like Ant-Man ($57.2M) and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation ($55.5M), which were playing in close to 1,200 more venues.

In the words of the writers at TMZ,”Hollywood’s not done cashing in on the ‘hood.” SOC is being used as sort of a “sequel” for another movie that picks up right where SOC left off at the end of the film. The “sequel” would be about the rise of Snoop Dogg, Tupac and other west coast rappers. Daz of Dogg Pound told TMZ that “the movie will pick up where N.W.A. left off — following the careers of Snoop, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Daz and Warren G.” The film is said to be titled “Dogg Pound 4 Life.”

The film is said to focus on Dogg Pound’s music. Daz told TMZ that “the follow-up also won’t whitewash gang violence and its impact on the rap industry.”

Some news that won’t make SOC fans too happy: the cast from Compton might not be in the “sequel.” The new film will have a different team. It is said that Dr. Dre‘s son Curtis Young is associated with project and that Ice Cube has given his blessing for the film.
