This is your weekend entertainment roundup! You’ve gorged yourself on Thanksgiving food, and if you’re a college student you endured the “what are your future plans” and “how’s school” questions. Well, while you were dealing with that, Hollywood had some interesting things happening too.
Kobe Bryant announced over the weekend that he plans on retiring after the next NBA season. He wrote a poem (see below) via The Players’ Tribune as his farewell to the game he loved and excelled in. Kobe’s career has spanned 20 years, which include him only playing in LA, winning 5 championships, and scoring 32,683 points despite his most recent form injury. Kobe’s talent will be missed.
From the moment
I started rolling my dad’s tube socks
And shooting imaginary
In the Great Western Forum
I knew one thing was real:
I fell in love with you.
A love so deep I gave you my all —
From my mind & body
To my spirit & soul.
As a six-year-old boy
Deeply in love with you
I never saw the end of the tunnel.
I only saw myself
Running out of one.
And so I ran.
I ran up and down every court
After every loose ball for you.
You asked for my hustle
I gave you my heart
Because it came with so much more.
I played through the sweat and hurt
Not because challenge called me
But because YOU called me.
I did everything for YOU
Because that’s what you do
When someone makes you feel as
Alive as you’ve made me feel.
You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I’ll always love you for it.
But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.
And that’s OK.
I’m ready to let you go.
I want you to know now
So we both can savor every moment we have left together.
The good and the bad.
We have given each other
All that we have.
And we both know, no matter what I do next
I’ll always be that kid
With the rolled up socks
Garbage can in the corner
:05 seconds on the clock
Ball in my hands.
5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1
Love you always,
Coco (famous for
her … personality? Maybe modeling?) and Ice-T (famous for being the random character on Law & Order: SVU, oh and his rap career in the 80s) had a baby girl by the name of Chanel Nicole.
According to E! Online, Coco shared the above photo on Instagram and captioned it with, “I’m doing great! I had the best delivery! I pushed Chanel out in 3 tries! This was taken not 5 minutes after delivery, called skin to skin contact..better for a more bonding experience”
This is Coco’s first child, but Ice-T has two other children. Oh, and Chanel Nicole already has an Instagram profile (username: babychanelnicole) containing 7 posts and 90k+ followers. Congrats T family!
Erykah Badu recently released her mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone, and rode that wave all the way to hosting the 2015 Soul Train Awards on Sunday. It is reported by E! Online that while hosting, miss Badu held no punches; she made fun of the show for not honoring rap (the show only honors R&B).
Miss Badu continued her jabs during a skit consisting of her making fake calls pretending to invite certain artists, Iggy Azalea being one. Iggy did not attend the show, she really hasn’t attending anything after canceling her tour dates, but that didn’t stop her from being “invited” by Badu.
The Queen of Neo Soul fake called Iggy and said, “Uh yes? Who is this? Iggy Azalea? … Yeah, hey. Oh, no, no, no, no, you can come, ’cause what you doin’ is definitely not rap.” SHAAAAAAADE avalanche. We all know the year Iggy has had so this isn’t new for her. As of now, Iggy hasn’t responded to the joke.
