Apparently not. Basketball Wives has pretty much had a monopoly on the women in the lives of athletes market since its debut on VH1 in 2010 and became even more of a staple when a Los Angeles based spinoff, Basketball Wives LA, debuted in 2011. Well the E! Network is trying to step out of the Kardashian only business and venture into other reality shows, hence the creation of their new show WAGS. WAGS stands for wives and girlfriends of sports stars.

According to E! Online, WAGS is about:

“The world of professional sports can be glamorous and full of perks, but these women behind the men know the truth…there are rules to being a WAG. From knowing how to support your man to how to learning the hierarchy of the WAG world and the drama that comes with it, these girls are the experts of maneuvering, manipulating and always making sure to look damn good while doing it.”

The show stars seven women who identify as either a wife, partner, or fiancé to an athlete: Autumn Ajirotutu, wife of the Philadelphia EaglesSeyi Ajirotutu; Barbie Blank, fiancée of former Anaheim Ducks player Sheldon Souray; Nicole Williams, four-year girlfriend of Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ offensive lineback Larry English; Natalie Halcro, who dates NFL player Shaun Phillips, and her cousin/BFF/business partner Olivia Pierson, who’s been linked to players from the Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Clippers; Sasha Gates, wife of San Diego Chargers’ Antonio Gates; and Ashley North fiancé of the Washington RedskinsDashon Goldson.

This show–unlike its predecessor–highlights not only the women in professional basketball player’s lives, but the women in the lives of all professional athletes. And boy will there be drama! PEOPLE got a supertease of the show and in that tease Sasha Gates said, “When people look at us they see the glitz and the glam, but there’s a lot of things that come with being in this type of relationship … However, you’re walking in there, it’s a representation of your man, too, and I gotta represent him the best I can.”

Ashely North said this of the WAGS world “You know that you’re not always [your partner’s] No. 1 priority, and you have to be comfortable with that.”

Basketball Wives and other shows with the same theme as WAGS has made it clear that girlfriends and wives of athletes aren’t thought of as being on the same level, Gates had this to say, “Know your place in the hierarchy. There are rules.” Uh oh. The claws are out! Will you be watching?
